I have been so blessed to serve congregations of all shapes and sizes across these United States. I began ministry as an Associate Pastor in an 1100 member church outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. From there the Lord called Karen and I to plant a church in Mobile, Alabama. We started with one, and when I left ten years later there were 175, as God had prospered that work. We then went to Mesa, Arizona, where for 17 years I was Senior Pastor at First Presbyterian Church, preaching, overseeing a staff of five, and doing first-line ministry in a transitioning area downtown.
In 2015 it seemed timely to step aside from ministry for a season. Our Lord provided a wonderful position as the Executive Director for a worthwhile non-profit in Scottsdale. It was a great position, but it wasn't what I was made to do, and after a year I left, soon to be called to Community Presbyterian Church in Cambria, California. This, too, was a wonderful time, but apparently God only had me there for a brief season, and in May of 2019 I returned to Arizona, as Pastor of Covenant Presbyterian.
I am a graduate of Claremont McKenna College, Princeton Theological Seminary (M.Div.), and Columbia Theological Seminary (Th.M, D.Min.). I have written over a dozen books and studies, all of which can be found online. Karen and I have two wonderful grown children, and an even more wonderful granddaughter :-) When not spending time with family I enjoy reading, golf, pickleball, and going to the gym.
